Andreas Wylezol

Andreas Wylezol was born in Berlin in 1967. He studied double bass at the Franz Liszt School of Music in Weimar in the class of Horst Dieter Wenkel. During his studies, he won prizes at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition and the Giovanni Bottesini Competition in Parma. He gained his first orchestral experiences from 1988 to 1989 in the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester with Claudio Abbado. Since 1989 he has been principal double bass with the Staatskapelle Dresden. Wylezol is one of the founding members of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. He also plays in the Orchestra of the Bayreuther Festspiele since 2007. Chamber music concerts have led him to the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Lucerne Festival, the Salzburg Easter Festival and the SHMF as well as to China and Japan.

Wylezol was a teacher at the Weimar University of Music and at the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. In 2005, he was appointed professor at the Detmold University of Music. Since 2021 he’s a tutor of the GMJO. He regularly appears as a soloist and has performed with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli and Sir Colin Davis. In June 2010 he gave the world premiere of Rebecca Saunders’ concerto "Fury 2", which was dedicated to him, at the Semperoper with the Staatskapelle Dresden.
